The tarpon fishing is awesome!

The fun size tarpon bite has been red hot the past few weeks with up to several hooked and landed every trip. And the cool trend has been that we have been catching them mostly between Naples and Marco, making an easy half day trip an option to catch your first tarpon.

They are also in the “funsize’ category, which means 10-40 pound fish, that blow up light tackle, explode in the air with acrobatics, and generally can be landed in 5-15 minutes, compared to the endless 1-2 hour battles we can get drawn into with the bigger fish, that can swallow of a fishing trip for all but the lucky angler that hooks up.

The baits we are using are live pilchards and live shrimp, free-lined on 30lb leaders, 15 pound test using Florida Fishing Products 2500 reels and Bull Bay Banshee 6′-“8 rods.

So line up a trip, if you’ve ever wanted to catch one of Florida’s most prized gamefish! This bite should last through September, and into October, and gives any angler who catches one, a legitimate shot at a coveted Backwater Grand Slam! Check out the Grand Slam Samantha from Naples just caught last week! Tarpon, Redfish, Trout and Snook…a memory she wont soon forget, and a memory I want to see someone else achieve!

Samantha’s quest for a Grand Slam started with a redfish on the second cast of the trip
Suddenly she got closer with a trout as we rolled up to the rolling tarpon
And with this snook, we have her first Grand Slam!
