Naples fishing charter produces giant snook for two fishermen! Check out the story written by the boys’ uncle who frequently fishes with me. Good stuff!
In the predawn haze, LP and Will, teenage brothers with salt in their veins, shoved off from the dock in Florida’s Everglades. Their eyes gleamed with the singular obsession of landing a 40-plus-inch snook—a trophy that haunted their dreams. Their guide, Tim, a wiry, sun-creased man with a contagious grin, steered the skiff through the mangrove-choked backwaters, his banter as steady as the hum of the outboard. “Boys, that big snook’s out there, but she’s smarter than both of ya combined,” he teased.
LP, the older at 17, cast a topwater lure with surgical precision, his lanky frame coiled with focus. Will, 15 and scrappy, worked a soft plastic, muttering about the one that snapped his line last week. The brothers were relentless, trading jabs and tips, their rivalry as fierce as their bond. Every ripple in the tannin-stained water spiked their pulses—could this be the fish?
Sometimes, their parents, Peter and Kristie, tagged along, perched at the bow with iced coffee and quiet pride. Peter, a practical man, would chuckle at the boys’ fervor, while Kristie, ever the optimist, swore she’d seen a monster snook’s shadow once. Today, though, it was just the brothers and Tim, weaving through labyrinthine channels where egrets stood sentinel.
As the sun climbed, Tim pointed to a shaded undercut bank. “That’s where she hides,” he whispered. LP’s lure skipped across the surface, drawing a boil but no strike. Will’s bait darted beneath, and then—wham!—his rod bent double. Line screamed off the reel as the fish surged for the mangroves. “It’s her!” Will yelled, heart pounding. LP dropped his rod to coach, their rivalry forgotten. Tim hollered pointers, poling the boat to keep the fish clear of snags.
For ten brutal minutes, Will battled, sweat beading, until a silver giant broke the surface—a snook, easily 42 inches, its flared gills pulsing defiantly. LP whooped, and even Tim’s cool cracked into awe. They netted her, measured, and snapped a quick photo, the brothers’ grins brighter than the midday sun. Kristie would’ve cried; Peter would’ve nodded approval.

With reverence, they released her, watching her tail flick as she vanished into the depths. “Next one’s mine,” LP vowed, punching Will’s shoulder. Tim laughed, cranking the engine. “Keep dreamin’, boys. She’s got cousins out there.”

As the skiff glided home, the Everglades whispered its secrets, and LP and Will knew they’d be back—chasing the next legend, together.
These type of trips are what guides live for. I have watched these two boys grow up for 7 summers into fishing, communicating, and fun young men to watch ply their craft in the back country mazes. To see the energy spread into the family, relatives and friends makes this profession one of the most rewarding! Naples fishing charter produces giant snook for two fishermen!
